In South Africa, during the 1700s, sodomy was a crime deemed worse than murder, and the fact that these two young men had indulged in it was also complicated by the fact that this space was an interracial love affair.

Meet the Author: Parmesh Shahani
Parmesh Shahani's 'Gay Bombay - Globalization, Love and (Be)longing in India' (New Delhi, Los Angeles, London, Singapore: Sage Publications) is now out in bookstores, all over India, including the Oxford bookstore in Bombay. Parmesh will be reading excerpts and answering questions at the next Bombay Dost Sunday High on 4th May 2008 (more details below).
About the book:
Using a combination of multi-sited ethnography, textual analysis, historical documentation analysis and memoir writing, Parmesh Shahani provides macro and micro perspectives on what it means to be a gay man living in Bombay. He explores what being gay means to members of the online-offline world of 'Gay Bombay' and how they negotiate locality and globalization, their sense of identity as well as a feeling of community. Parmesh Shahani is based in Bombay, India, where he works on new media and innovation for the Mahindra Group and for Verve, Man's World and Rolling Stone magazines. His other work experiences include helping manage research for the Convergence Culture Consortium at MIT, founding India's first youth website Freshlimesoda, business development for Sony's Indian television channel operations, writing and editing copy for Elle magazine and The Times of India newspaper and helping make a low-budget English feature film. Parmesh holds undergraduate degrees in commerce and education from the University of Bombay, and a graduate degree in Comparative Media Studies, from MIT.

Bindu donned the hat of a writer, first with "Partner" and now withhis latest Indradhanu: Samalaingikateche Vividh Ranga, a book that discusses various aspects of homosexuality from the Indian perspective.
